Star Trek Online: Call of Valor

STO: Cloaked Intentions Ep. 1 – The Vault (continued)

The Vault

"That's no moon! ..."

I finally got into the Vault, and thankfully continued right from where I’d left off – entering the station. The station interior is HUUUGE!! And beautiful ^_^ I was very pleased with all the eye candy they put into it. The little diplomatic side mission just after getting in there was a nice touch, too.  It was a little confusing at first, especially when my engineer told me I’d “ave to think 3 dimensionally” even though the exit to the next section was basically right across from me, but I found where I was supposed to go.

BE WARNED: this mission will be a LOT easier with a runabout or a Delta Flyer; the Type 8 Shutttlecraft is just plain poorly equipped for the task, even with VA equipment installed. I can’t tell you how many times I died simply because I got caught in a station tractor beam turret and was blown to atoms by a disruptor turret simply because they were outside my measly firing arch when I was snagged. Pissed me right off.

Oh, and another spoiler, there will be energy walls that have separate sections that will raise and lower but I couldn’t figure out the timing; you can fly through them, but they’ll randomly drain one of your shield facings & if your at full impulse, it drops you to basic impulse.

The Reman voice over was absolutely awesome; I look forward to hearing more voice overs of that quality in the future. Now that I’ve done this, I’m actually considering re-playing several other missions as well & seeing what kinds of re-play rewards or accolades there are. Well, at least until the next episode is out next weekend… 😉

The one complaint I had was that I tried to sneak by the Romulan escort ship during the escape, but when I did I couldn’t figure out how to get out of the station. There were no indicators that I could see; it turned out I was able to just go out the way I came, but the way that entrance is textured, I thought it was a solid wall, not a door, and I had to get really close before the button for the escape option showed up on my screen. I think the radius of that waypoint needs to be increased a bit; I got my ass handed to me about 8 or 9 times thinking that I had to destroy that escort ship…

I was also a bit annoyed that I had to go back to Starbase 39 to talk to not just Admiral T’Nae, but also her assistant guy in order to turn in the quest. A minor complaint compared to getting pwned by a Romulan flyswatter.
